Fibre Splicer Job description

Job Description:

In accordance with BOLT Telecommunications Inc. procedures and policies, the employee will be responsible for the splicing, testing and troubleshooting of newly installed and existing fibre infrastructure. In addition, the employee must be able to understand and decipher fibre splice packages.

Duties include:

  • Interpret and understand placing and splicing work plans.

  • Splice and test Fibre optic cables in all outside plant applications – aerial, burial and underground, on both newly placed and existing cables.

  • Accurately record and report project progress to the appropriate supervisory person and communicate any issues or expected delays.

  • Work outdoors in various conditions to place copper or Fibre optic telecommunication cables.

  • Locating fibre faults.

  • Able to use OTDR for testing and troubleshooting.

  • Input project as-built information.

  • Clean and maintain tools and equipment

  • Perform other duties as requested.

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of fibre and all related tools used in the field.

  • Experience with fusion splicers and testing equipment.

  • Strong Microsoft Office skills.

  • Strong command of the English language, both spoken and written.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, able to clearly communicate with internal and external project teams.

  • Detail-oriented with solid problem solving and analytical skills.

  • Multi-tasking ability; adaptable to changing priorities and deadlines.

  • Self-motivated with the ability to take initiative and resolve problems independently; monitors own quality of work.

  • Demonstrated commitment to health and safety and willing to receive applicable Health and Safety training as per legislative and job requirements.

  • Must have valid G license as site work is required in and around the Kitchener area.

Preferred Skills and Knowledge:

  • Working at heights training.

  • First Aid.

  • Knowledge of ribbon cable and ribbon splicing.

  • Knowledge of fibre termination panels.

  • Installing Fibre connectors.
